Zugspitze
The Mount Zugspitze is the highest mountain of the German Alps. It is located in southern Germany, about 90 km southwest of Munich, at the Austrian border near the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Environmental Research Station "Schneefernerhaus" is located on the southern slope of the Mount Zugspitze. No vegetation, bare rocks, covered by snow from October to June. Ehrwald-Lermoos (6km, 2600 inhabitants, 1000m a.s.l.); Grainau (7.4, 3500 Inhabitants, 750 m a.s.l.); Garmisch (12km, 29000 inhabitants, 708 m a.s.l.); Innsbruck (38km, 133000 inhabitants, 574 m a.s.l.); München (92km, 1558000 inhabitants, 519 m a.s.l.)
